EDITOR: Last week, my company paid $2,000 so that I could participate in a distance learning class in mobile application development at Harvard University. We would have happily paid the same amount to Santa Rosa Junior College had they offered a similar course.

This single class has 200 students, 100 of whom are participating via the Internet, generating at least $200,000 in revenue from distance learning students alone.

As a business owner, I have to embrace emerging technologies and so must the junior college. I strongly encourage them to offer more distance learning classes in subjects that would appeal to the business community, particularly the emerging fields of web and phone apps. Just imagine the revenue opportunities this could create if the junior college became known as a corporate distance learning/training center for mobile device technologies.
