Dell completes purchase of Force10 Networks

Computer maker Dell Inc. has finalized its purchase of Force10 Networks, which has a network engineering center in Petaluma.

Force10 has about 100 employees in Petaluma, where it designs transport and access technology for high-speed communications networks.

In July, Texas-based Dell said it would buy Force10 to help expand its data center networking business. The price hasn't been disclosed.

The deal closed Friday.

The Petaluma networking business began in 1999 as Turin Networks, a venture-backed startup. In 2009, Turin acquired Force10, adding Force10's data center technology to its product lineup.

The company moved its headquarters to San Jose and changed its name to Force10, but kept the Petaluma facility for research and development of its carrier transport line.

Force10 filed plans last year to go public with a $144 million stock sale, but asked federal securities regulators to withdraw the registration last week.
