Event for Rohnert Park crosswalk victim raises $22,000

Sonoma County people have done some grand things for neighbors in crisis, but that coming together Sunday in Rohnert Park for the parents of 2-year-old crosswalk accident victim Calli Murray — abundant food, rollicking music, games, about 700 people, more than $22,000 raised — may have been a new high.

Only two months after she lost one of her two children, Ling Murray sat in her wheelchair and braces and thanked person after person for the love, prayers and support. She showed the crowd at the Sally Tomatoes event center how far she's come, by rising to her feet.

Bravo to the sponsoring Fabulous Women of Petaluma, who really are. And to Calli's father, Jeff, for urging everyone to prevent another such tragedy by never, ever texting while driving.
