Tickets are still available for the kickoff Grand Tasting event Friday at the 2011 Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
By midday on Tuesday, about 800 tickets had been sold for the new event, according to Sheila Quince, exhibit coordinator for the three-day Harvest Fair held this Friday through Sunday. Tasting capacity is 1,500. It will be held 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Grace Pavilion.
The retooled tasting, held in previous years a week before the event during the Gala Awards night dinner, still offers sips of all the gold-medal winning wines, plus the foods given awards at the fair's professional food competition.
"It still has all the great favorites as far as the foods and the wines," said Quince. "But this is the first time there's a real connection between the professional food judging and the fair."
Tickets to the Grand Tasting ($60 in advance, or $50 each in groups of 10) may be purchased at the Harvest Fair Office through Thursday at 1350 Bennett Valley Road, or online at harvestfair.org.
