A recommendation for potential sites for a permanent Guerneville homeless shelter will be released next week by a task force of county officials, business interests and Russian River area residents.

The goal is to have a permanent shelter open by the winter of 2012, said John Haig of the Sonoma County Community Development Commission.

Haig said a list of potential sites will be released Monday by the Russian River Area Shelter and Downtown task force, which has been debating the issue for eight months.

The recommendation will be discussed at a Nov. 3 meeting in Guerneville and a final decision made on Nov. 15 by the Community Development Commission, which will then be given to the Board of Supervisors.

The recommendation will be posted on the commission's website, www.sonoma-county.org/cdc/, and at the Guerneville library.

The shelter will replace a temporary homeless shelter that has been moved around the past several years.
