The Sonoma City Council could take another significant step Monday night toward the city acquiring a large parcel of land that forms much of the city's backdrop.

The council in March voted unanimously to take conditional ownership of the 98-acre Montini Preserve, which was part of the foothills purchased in 1850 by Gen. Mariano Vallejo.

The council meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room, 177 First St. W.
