Agilent Technologies in Santa Rosa has been recognized by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for reducing pollution through carpooling and other commute alternatives.

Agilent, the largest tech employer in Sonoma County, was one of 189 Bay Area companies that competed in the air district's "Great Race for Clean Air" in September and October.

It was named along with six other Bay Area companies for cutting the most carbon dioxide emissions. About 40 Agilent employees reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10,700 pounds during the effort.

The competition encouraged carpooling, vanpooling, walking, bicycling and public transit.

The district regulates air quality in 9 Bay Area counties.
