A driver the CHP believed was racing another motorist on Highway 101 early Friday was arrested on various charges, including drunken driving.
Alvaro Cornejo, 31, of Santa Rosa, has two DUI convictions and a conviction for driving with a suspended license, according to the CHP. His license is currently suspended, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
Sloat said two officers on patrol on northbound 101 at the Morgan Street on-ramp saw two vehicles speed by at about 80 mph just before 2 a.m. The officers followed the vehicles, which exited on Steele Lane, he said.
Cornejo pulled over near Cleveland Avenue and appeared disoriented, officers said. He would not roll down his window, Sloat said, and was questioned through his open door.
The officer observed signs of drug intoxication and Cornejo was arrested, Sloat said. A methamphetamine pipe was found under the driver's seat, he said.
Cornejo was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
