A man killed over the weekend when he walked into traffic lanes of Highway 101 and was struck by an oncoming pickup was identified Sunday as Kevin Fitzgerald, 58, of Santa Rosa, CHP officials said.
Fitzgerald was struck by a Toyota Tacoma at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the right southbound lane near the downtown Santa Rosa exit, CHP Sgt. Kahl Eidam said.
It was unclear why Fitzgerald was walking along the highway and why he began crossing the southbound lanes. He appeared to have been heading east across the highway.
A coroner's examination would determine whether Fitzgerald was intoxicated, Eidam said.
