Man hit by car in Santa Rosa suffers possible life-threatening injuries

A man struck by a car in west Santa Rosa remained hospitalized Monday as traffic officers investigated reports he'd been running in and out of traffic before the accident, Santa Rosa police reported.

The pedestrian was struck Sunday night near West Third Street and Gate Way, Sgt. Lance Badger said.

The man remained hospitalized Monday afternoon in intensive care, police said.

Callers alerted police at 10:05 p.m. to a man walking in traffic lanes on West Third Street. Witnesses told officers they'd seen him running toward moving cars and disrobing, Badger said.

Officers found the man on the ground, hit by a car driven by Kevin Tarara, 22, of Santa Rosa.

Initial reports indicated he'd been in the traffic lane when he was hit.

Officers Monday afternoon still were trying to verify the man's identity.
