A Santa Rosa mother testified Monday that she and her family were attacked by up to 20 men during a drunken brawl at a Fulton Road low rider show that left her husband seriously injured and knocked unconscious.
Raquel Pacheco testified the attack came when she was hosting a birthday party June 16 at Youth Community Park alongside the car show featuring rappers and a beer drinking contest.
Pacheco said it began when one of the revelers punched her 18-year-old daughter, Icelya. Pacheco's husband, Amador, 40, jumped to her defense and was punched and kicked by 10 men, she said.
After a lull in the fighting, Pacheco said someone struck her husband over the head with a bottle and he fell to the ground under a flurry of fists and feet that lasted 10 minutes.
"I remember the look on his face like he knew he was done," Pacheco said of her husband, who suffered serious head injuries. "It was like it was over."
Pacheco said she and her daughters tried to stop the attackers, who grew in number to a mob of 20, but were punched and kicked themselves.
Pacheco recalled her feelings of helplessness as men kicked her husband in the face, causing his head to jerk backwards.
"He was just laying there taking kicks to the head," said Pacheco, wiping tears from her eyes. "I didn't know if he was going to come out OK."
Amador Pacheco, who has recovered from his injuries, could testify later in the hearing.
The fight broke up suddenly when a family member called 911, his wife testified.
