The Rohnert Park City Council voted unanimously Wednesday morning to reappoint the three councilmembers running up for reelection, thus cancelling the city's November council election.
Mayor Jake Mackenzie, Councilman Gina Belforte and Councilman Joe Callahan will, barring the unlikely events of early retirement or recall, occupy the dais for four more years.
Pastor Chip Worthington, a leader of groups fighting the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria's casino outside the city, took out papers to run but did not submit them.
No members of the public spoke against the reappointment option, which saves the city about $30,000 in election costs. But Mackenzie's wife, Barbara, said she would welcome not having to run another campaign.
The 3-0 vote was taken by Councilman Amy Ahanotu, Councilman Pam Stafford and Mackenzie, who was chosen by straw to be the third vote, providing a legal quorum.
The vote, not unexpected, was nevertheless historic. It marks the first uncontested council election in the city's 50-year history.
