An Occidental motorcyclist was arrested Friday night after leading a CHP officer on a high speed chase that started on River Road and ended on Highway 116 when he lost control, crashed and was ejected from his motorcycle.
CHP officials said Alexander Ketcham, 43, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on River Road at about 9:46 p.m. A CHP officer attempted to stop Ketcham but he accelerated in an effort to evade police, hitting speeds of more than 90 miles per hour, according to a CHP statement.
The CHP officer pursued Ketcham onto Fulton Road, Guerneville Road, Frei Road and finally on Highway 116. There, while trying to pass a car, Ketcham sideswiped it and lost control of his motorcycle, officials said.
Ketcham crashed into a raised embankment and road sign and was ejected, coming to rest on the north shoulder of Highway 116. He was arrested on suspicion of reckless evading and riding with a fake motorcycle license plate.
The suspect was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a broken back and lacerations to his hands and arms.
