Healdsburg to hold 9/11 memorial ceremony

Healdsburg will honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with a special memorial dedication at 6 p.m. today in the Healdsburg Plaza.

The ceremony will be held where a section of steel I-beam from the World Trade Center was just installed as a memorial to the 3,000 people who lost their lives that day.

Scheduled to be in attendance and make comments are various officials including the mayor, police and fire chiefs. The names of 343 firefighters and 66 police officers who perished on 9/11 also will be read.

9/11 11th Anniversary


Officials with the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District in May had a similar steel section from the Twin Towers installed outside their fire department as part of a memorial, although there is no ceremony scheduled for today.
