Cyclist hit, injured in collision with car in Santa Rosa

A cyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of Mendocino and Pacific avenues early Tuesday.

The cyclist was westbound, riding against traffic across Mendocino Avenue in the southern-most crosswalk when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander driven by Vanthoeun Meas of Santa Rosa, police said.

Meas was leaving the Santa Rosa Junior College campus and making a right turn onto southbound Mendocino Avenue when the collision occurred, according to a preliminary police investigation.

Cyclists can ride in crosswalks, but not against traffic, according to Officer Ken Carstensen.

The cyclist, whose name was not available Tuesday, suffered a laceration to the head and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He was not wearing a helmet.
