San Francisco Symphony to perform four concerts at SSU next season

The San Francisco Symphony under Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas has announced its 101st season, which includes four forays in 2012-2013 to the new Green Music Center at Sonoma State University.

The concerts, held in the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall, will be presented at 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings at the campus in Rohnert Park.

On Dec. 6, 2012, Thomas will conduct the symphony in Hector Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique" and a U.S. premiere of Jorg Widmann's Piano Concerto, performed by Russian-American pianist Yefim Bronfman. The concerto was co-comissioned by the San Francisco Symphony and the Berlin Philharmonic.

On Jan. 31, 2013, Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit will lead the symphony in Maurice Ravel's "Rapsodie espagnole," Edouard Lalo's "Symphonie espagnole" featuring Canadian violinist James Ehnes, and Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations."

On March 7, 2013, Thomas will conduct the symphony in a program of Luciano Berio's "Eindrucke," Brahms' Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, performed by Chinese pianist Yuja Wang.

On May 23, 2013, American conductor David Robertson will lead the symphony in a program showcasing Canadian pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin in Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand and George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." Rounding out the program will be Ravel's "La Valse" and Elliot Carter's Variations for Orchestra.

Subscriptions for the San Francisco Symphony's 2012-2013 season are currently on sale to the general public at sfsymphony.org or 415-864-6000.

The subscription ticket packages for the four-concert series range from $100 to $560. Single tickets range from $15 to $140 and will go on sale on July 23.

The San Francisco Symphony will also perform for the inaugural opening of the Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University in January 2013 and perform two concerts at the Mondavi Center at the University of California at Davis in September 2012 and April 2013.
