Maria Carrillo High School student named Distinguished Young Woman of Sonoma County

Maria Carrillo High School student Brynna Thigpen was named the 2013 Distinguished Young Woman of Sonoma County at a Rohnert Park contest on Saturday.

Ten local high school juniors competed for $3,000 in scholarships locally.

Thigpen, 16, says she hopes to go on to a 4-year liberal arts university and career interests range from biology to journalism.

She goes on to compete in the national competition in Alabama in June.
