Sonoma police seek man who exposed self at 2 markets

Police are searching for an elderly man who publicly exposed his genitals in two Sonoma supermarkets on Friday, Sept. 28.

The suspect, a white man in his 60s or 70s, walked into the Safeway at 5th Street W. and W. Napa Street at about 10 p.m. on that date and exposed himself to a female shopper, according to a police statement.

He then fled the store and went across the street to Sonoma Market. There he exposed himself to a female store employee and again left the scene before police could arrive. Both markets provided photos of the suspect, who is further described as being of medium build, grey hair with a mustache and goatee.

No further information was available Saturday morning.

Police have distributed a photo that shows a man wearing a white shirt and shorts approaching the Sonoma Market as a female in the foreground walks toward him. The female, who is wearing an apron, appears to be an employee.

The photo was taken from security camera footage, with later footage showing the man exposing himself, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the suspect call Deputy Eric Smith of the Sonoma Police Department at (707) 996-3602. The reference case is #12-1357.
