Jury selection began Wednesday in the trial of a Lake County man charged with killing two former friends during a dispute over marijuana.
Robby Alan Beasley is charged with shooting to death Frank Maddox, 32, and Yvette Maddox, 40, in 2010. Beasley had invited the couple to California to work as marijuana trimmers, according to the Lake County District Attorney's Office.
Beasley later came to believe the couple had stolen some of his marijuana, officials said.
A man charged as an accomplice has testified that Beasley told him he asked the couple to drive him to the airport, then told them to pull over to the side of the road so he could urinate. According to the witness, Beasley said that once they were outside the truck he confronted the couple and shot them.
The bodies were found about two months later down a steep embankment on Morgan Valley Road.
Testimony in the trial is expected to begin next month.
