Autopsy scheduled on man killed in Highway 1 wreck

Authorities remained unable Wednesday morning to identify a driver who died Monday night in a fiery vehicle crash on Highway 1 near The Sea Ranch.

An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday, and detectives hoped after that to positively identify the man's burned remains and notify his family, Sonoma County Coroners' personnel said.

The CHP said the victim was an out-of-state man driving a southgound Jaguar sportscar near Vantage Road when he missed a curve on the coast highway, crossed the opposing lane, hit the embankment and then struck a tree.

The impact caused the 2000 Jaguar to burst into flames with the man still inside, the CHP said.
