A Lake County driver tried to flee police during a short pursuit early Sunday but was arrested after the man crashed in the Highway 12 "S" curves near Farmers Lane, reported Santa Rosa police.
Driver Jimmy Jimenez, 52, was driving at about 80 mph on the curves when he lost control and hit a guardrail, reported Santa Rosa Sgt. Terry Anderson.
Officers arrested Jimenez on suspicion of drunken driving and evading arrest.
Police were trying to pull Jimenez over as part of a hit-and-run crash investigation.
That crash occurred at about 12:45 a.m. at Hoen Avenue and Farmers Lane.
A driver called 911 to report his car had been hit by another vehicle and that the driver didn't stop.
The caller said he was following the man who'd struck him, Anderson said.
Police found the car a few blocks away at Brookwood and Sonoma avenues, and when the officer tried to stop the car, the driver took off, heading to the nearby highway.
The hit-and-run collision remained under investigation, Anderson said.
