Driver killed in Mendocino County head-on crash ID'd

The victim of a fatal head-on collision Thursday on Highway 101 in northern Mendocino County has been identified as Robert Leroy Crosby, 69, of Fairfield.

Crosby and his wife apparently were en route to a getaway in Benbow Thursday afternoon when an oncoming southbound car crossed into their lane south of Leggett and struck their car head-on, authorities said.

Crosby, who was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus, died at the scene, the CHP said.

His wife, Karen Crosby, was taken to Phelps Hospital in Garberville, and treated for moderate injuries.

The driver of the other car, a 2003 Toyota Corolla, was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits with moderate injuries, the CHP said. She was identified as Heather Anne Parker, 62, of Hydesville.
