Gnarly Head, 2011 California Pinot Grigio, 12.5 percent alcohol, $10. A refreshing pinot grigio with bright acid. Aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, Meyer lemon and white peach. Great minerality.

Francis Coppola, 2011 Diamond Collection, Pinot Grigio, 13 percent, $11. A tasty pinot grigio with bright flavors. Aromas and flavors of grapefruit, mineral and green apple. Nice length.

Monte Volpe, 2011 Mendocino County Pinot Grigio, 13.5 percent, $14. A striking pinot grigio with layered flavors. Notes of cantaloupe, melon and mineral. Bright acidity. Crisp finish.

Enkidu, 2008 Diener Ranch Red Hills, Lake County Petite Sirah, 15.3 percent, $45. A rustic petite sirah with good bones and great concentration. Notes of black cherry, almond, vanilla and black pepper. Zesty.

Buehler Vineyards, 2009 Papa's Knoll, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.1 percent, $25. An impressive cabernet with complexity. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, plum, currant and black pepper. Great concentration of fruit. Lingering finish. A steal for the price.
