Two injured in crash south of Santa Rosa

A blue Mazda Miata crashed into a tree Friday evening south of Santa Rosa, injuring two people, the CHP said.

The Mazda, driven by Emile Smith, 33, of Sebastopol was traveling east on Todd Road just west of Stony Point Road at about 4:35 p.m. when the car drifted off the south side of the roadway.

The passenger side of the car then slammed into the tree. The passenger, an unidentified female, suffered major injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel. Smith was also injured.

CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. He said that officers are testing for alcohol but "it's not believed to be involved."
