A short police pursuit late Sunday night in Healdsburg ended with a suspected drunken driver hitting a telephone pole, reported Healdsburg police.
The driver, David Phillips, 22, of Windsor, suffered a broken leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, said Healdsburg Sgt. Matt Jenkins.
Phillips had been driving on Healdsburg Avenue, in the south end of town, at 10:02 p.m. when a patrolling officer saw him swerve off of the roadway, sending up a dust cloud, said Jenkins.
The officer attempted to stop the car. But the driver turned onto Bailache Avenue and kept going.
The pursuit was over in about two minutes.
At 10:04 p.m. the officer had radioed for an ambulance after the driver lost control, ran off of the roadway and into the pole just east of Village Avenue.
Phillips was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, said Jenkins.
