Petaluma police seek driver that hit pedestrian

Petaluma police are searching for the driver of a white BMW or similar sport utility vehicle believed to be involved in a hit and run Thursday that injured a pedestrian.

The collision occurred just after 8 p.m. at Petaluma Boulevard and B Street. Police said the vehicle was headed east on B Street and turning left onto Petaluma Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian crossing in a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian, Janet Kelly, 55, of Petaluma, suffered minor injuries, police reported.

The male driver and a female passenger, both in their 60s, spoke briefly to Kelly, then drove around the block and eventually drove away from the scene, police said.

A possible license plate for the vehicle included either the number 5 or the letter S, police said.

Police asked anyone with information about the collision to call Officer Matthew Capitelli, 776-3721.
