Healdsburg police arrest man in golf club attack

Healdsburg police Monday arrested a Healdsburg man suspected of beating another man with a golf club, police reported.

Officers were called to Ward Street at about 9:40 p.m. Friday and found an unconscious man in the middle of the street, reported Sgt. Luis Rodriguez.

The 28-year-old victim, Amado Cruz Martinez of Healdsburg, had severe injuries to his face and was bleeding badly.

He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His condition Tuesday wasn't available.

Witnesses told police the man's attacker had used a golf club.

The investigation pointed to Javier Mendoza Rodriguez, 28. Officers looked for him throughout the weekend and late Monday afternoon Rodriguez turned himself in to police.

Officers arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

He was taken to the Sonoma County Jail and released after posting bail.

Healdsburg Lt. Matt Jenkins said the motive remained under investigation but it may have been about a woman.
