Cyclist hit, killed by car in River Road head-on crash

A bicyclist died after crashing head-on into an SUV on darkened River Road near Forestville late Thursday night, the CHP said.

David Lemuel Standley, 34, was not wearing a helmet and had no light on his bicycle when he apparently rode into oncoming traffic near Scenic Drive, east of the Hacienda Bridge, just before midnight, the CHP said.

The driver of the Lexus SUV was identified as Healdsburg resident Gail Loschiavo.

The CHP said Loschiavo, 59, was traveling eastbound on River Road as the mountain bike headed westbound in her lane.

The cyclist, who is a transient, according to the Sonoma County Coroner's Office, died at the scene.

River Road was closed for about 90 minutes while authorities investigated, the CHP said.
