Lakeport man suspected of prowling, drug violations

Lakeport police officers arrested a 46-year-old man Saturday afternoon on suspicion of prowling in the area of the 600 block of Armstrong Street.

The police were alerted at 1:09 p.m. by a witness who reported a suspicious male and vehicle backed up to a vacant residence.

When police arrived at the scene they found Robert Stephen Laplante of Lakeport standing outside a beige Toyota pick-up. Police said they found numerous property items they believe were taken from the property located near the truck.

A Lake County Sheriff's deputy assisted in the investigation and conducted a search of Laplante's vehicle, police said. A hypodermic syringe that was thought to contain methamphetamine was located.

Police said the deputy also concluded that Laplante was under the influence of methamphetamine. Police said Laplante has prior arrests for drug-related charges.

Laplante was booked into the Lake County Correctional Facility on suspicion of prowling, trespassing and drug charges.
