Santa Rosa police nab stabbing suspect carrying shotgun in neighborhood

A man on the loose with a double-barrel shotgun and a knife put a Rincon Valley neighborhood on high alert Friday evening.

Santa Rosa police said an armed suspect stabbed another man outside an apartment complex off Prospect Avenue, a block from Mission Boulevard, before he was arrested a short time later

The injuries were described as surface wounds and not life-threatening.

Neighbors identified the victim as Steven Haloran, a junior college student who lives in the apartment complex.

"The victim was innocent, in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Sgt. Dave Linscomb.

Police did not provide a name of the suspect, who was described as being in his mid-60s.

Investigators were trying to determine a motive for the attack, but Linscomb said it appeared to stem from an earlier dispute the suspect had with another person.
