The victim of a fatal vehicle crash in Lake County on Wednesday has been identified as Leo Galli, 73, of Clearlake Oaks.

Galli died in a head-on collision Wednesday morning after crossing into an oncoming lane on Highway 29 near Lower Lake, the CHP said.

Initial reports indicated he was southbound on the highway near Spruce Grove Road south of Lower Lake when he crossed a double-yellow line into the northbound lane around 8:15 a.m., the CHP said.

An oncoming driver, Lower Lake resident Beverly Reynolds, 66, braked but was unable to avoid a head-on collision, authorities said. The engine compartment of her car caught on fire, but it was extinguished by fire personnel.

Galli was in a small 2012 Mazda and died at the scene, the CHP said.

Reynolds suffered major injuries in the crash and remained in serious condition Thursday at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she was airlifted after the collision.

Her 13-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries at St. Helena Hospital/Clearlake, the CHP said.

Investigators were still trying to determine what prompted Galli to shift out of his lane, the CHP said.
