A Covelo woman may have been killed over unsubstantiated suspicions that she'd stolen a cellphone, Mendocino County Sheriff's officials said Friday.

No other details about the shooting death of Rosalena "Belle" Rodriguez were available Friday, said Sheriff's Capt. Greg Van Patten.

Rodriguez, 21, was found May 25 on a rural road in Round Valley, just outside the town of Covelo. She had been shot multiple times, authorities said.

Three people initially were arrested in connection with the death, but only one, Jeremy Jason Freeman-Britton, 21, has been charged with murder by the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office, Van Patten said.

Rodriguez and Freeman-Britton are both Round Valley tribal members.
