Numerous 911 callers Monday night reported a man chasing and allegedly assaulting a woman along Highway 101 in Santa Rosa, leading to the arrest of a Santa Rosa man.

At about 7 p.m. the couple had run out of gas along the highway, near Highway 12, Sonoma County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Pedersen said.

The man was apparently intoxicated and hit the woman, who then was bleeding from cuts to her face, according to incident reports.

She ran from the car with him in pursuit. Santa Rosa police and CHP officers responded, stopping the man. Deputies found the woman further down the highway, Pedersen said.

The woman told deputies that after leaving the car, the man had chased and grabbed her, that she'd punched him and kept running, he said.

Juan Torres-Betancourt, 24, was arrested on suspicion of felony abuse of a domestic partner with injury. He was taken to the Sonoma County Jail and bail was set at $30,000.
