Sonoma County sheriff's deputies sent to a Santa Rosa PG&E yard for a possible burglary arrived to find a man jumping a fence and running from the storage yard.
Deputies arrested Kory Wayne Messer, 25, of Santa Rosa, suspecting he'd been in the Airport Boulevard storage yard trying to steal copper wire, said Lt. Steve Brown.
Copper has become a popular theft target. Police and deputies have made several arrests in the county in recent months, including two earlier in the year at PG&E yards in Petaluma.
In the most recent case a burglar alarm triggered a call to sheriff's dispatchers at 10:40 p.m. Saturday.
While investigating, deputies spotted a car parked nearby and checked for owner information. The car turned out to have been stolen earlier in Healdsburg, said Brown.
Deputies arrested Messer on suspicion of attempted burglary, attempted grand theft, possessing stolen property, resisting arrest, trespassing, violating probation and several felony warrants, Brown said.
Messer remained in the Sonoma County Jail Sunday without bail.
