Extra Letters: Reactions to shooting of 13-year-old Santa Rosa boy

  • Sujey Lopez and her husband Rodrigo Lopez mourn for their son by a memorial set up at the site where their 13-year-old son, Andy Lopez, was shot and killed by a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy, Wednesday Oct. 23, 2013, in Santa Rosa, Calif. Northern California sheriff's deputies shot and killed the 13-year-old boy after repeatedly telling him to drop what turned out to be a replica assault rifle, sheriff's officials and family members said. Two deputies on patrol saw the boy walking with what appeared to be a high-powered weapon Tuesday afternoon. (AP Photo/The Press Democrat, Conner Jay)

Beware of kids

EDITOR: Important notice to all Sonoma County law enforcement agencies: During the Halloween season, several children will be dressed in costume and sporting plastic pointed teeth, swords, daggers, light sabers, cap pistols and airsoft guns. Kindly refrain from shooting them. The killing of these children causes distress to their parents and increases concern among the general Sonoma County population.
