Missing Marin County man's body found near Fort Funston

SAN FRANCISCO — The body of a man who went missing when his tug boat sank off San Francisco's Ocean Beach has been recovered.

Authorities have identified the body found in the water near Fort Funston — about three miles south of Ocean Beach — on Saturday as that of 53-year-old Roger Christiansen of Marin County. A cause of death has not been determined.

Christiansen disappeared on April 9 after the boat he and a companion were in began taking on water.

The pair were apparently headed to Pacifica to retrieve a lost skiff.

Christiansen's companion was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

But the search for Christiansen was called off about nine hours later after Coast Guard officials determined he was not likely to have survived that long in the frigid waters.
