Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane was voted by his peers the Sporting News Major League Baseball Executive of the Year at the annual manager meeting in Indian Wells on Wednesday night.

Beane, the A's GM for the past 16 years, got 31 votes, ahead of the Washington Nationals' Mike Rizzo's 13 votes.

Beane previously won the award, presented since 1936, in 1999.

The A's finished the 2012 season first in the American League West with a record of 94-68. It was the first time the team reached the postseason since 2006, losing to the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series.
