SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged for allegedly robbing $1,700 from a bank.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gasc? says 46-year-old Philip Chun Tong was arrested Friday on suspicion of robbing a Bank of America branch in the city's Richmond District. Tong has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of burglary.

Prosecutors say Tong entered the bank at 4:47 p.m. Nov. 7, gave a demand note to the teller and left after he got the cash. Police investigators identified Tong as the suspect through surveillance video and fingerprints on the demand note.

Gason says Tong's alleged conduct is "deplorable and will be met with serious consequences."

The San Francisco Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
