ROSS — Police say a man being pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving escaped officers by jumping into a Marin County creek that was swollen from heavy rains.
Ross Police Chief Erik Masterson said Monday that the driver, described as a male in his 20s, was pulled over at 12:30 a.m. and has still not been found.
Masterson said the man immediately bolted after his car stopped.
Officers saw him climb a nearby fence and jump into Corte Madera Creek, which was rushing from recent storms.
Using flashlights, officers followed the man as he swam in the creek, but they eventually lost sight of him.
Numerous police and fire agencies responded to help search, but that was called off at 4:45 a.m. and resumed at dawn.
