Cats shot with crossbow darts in Central California town

NEWMAN — Police in the Central Valley city of Newman are looking for at least one person who shot several cats with crossbow darts.

Cpl. Jason Gosselin of the Newman Police Department says four cats were found last weekend with 6-inch darts lodged in their bodies. Three of the cats required surgery, including one that was shot in the eye.

Gosselin says another Newman resident came forward this week, claiming her cat died after sustaining a similar injury in December.

So far, investigators don't have any leads on possible suspects.

Residents who live in the Newman neighborhood where the cats were shot are offering a cash award for information leading to an arrest.

Gosselin says it's the worst case of animal cruelty that he's ever seen.
