Bomb threat cleared at Lawrence Berkeley office

EMERYVILLE, Calif. - Occupants of an Emeryville office building used by a division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have been given the all-clear to go back to work following a reported bomb threat.

University of California, Berkeley Police Lt. Eric Tejada said an evacuation order for the building was lifted Wednesday afternoon, about six hours after lab officials notified police about the telephoned threat.

Streets also were closed for a block in every direction while officers used give bomb-sniffing dogs to sweep the building, which houses other businesses besides a division of the lab dedicated to biofuels research. Tejada says the search turned up nothing suspicious.

UC Berkeley runs the lab under a contract with the federal government. The lab's main campus is in Berkeley.
