Man injured in Santa Rosa crash near fair

A man was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on Sunday after crashing his pickup into a power pole near the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was "fading in and out of consciousness" when firefighters removed him from the pickup, Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.

The crash occured at 7:15 p.m. on Bennett Valley Road near the Jockey Club at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

No one else was involved in the crash and the name of the man was not immediately available.

Bennett Valley Road, always a busy thoroughfare, is particularly crowded at this time of year because of the fair.
