Kronos Quartet to perform piece written for The Sea Ranch

The renowned quartet wraps up the coastal community's 50th birthday celebration with three free concerts this weekend.|

The Kronos Quartet will perform a world premiere of a contemporary work written for The Sea Ranch three times this weekend by the Kronos Quartet as the grand finale of the coastal community’s 50th birthday.

The free performances, which honor The Sea Ranch’s revolutionary architecture and landscape, will be performed in the Knipp-Stengel Barn, 36700 Highway One.

The renowned quartet, based in the Bay Area, will perform “The Sea Ranch Songs” by Serbian composer Aleksandra Vrebalov. The quartet has commissioned and recorded several pieces by Vrebalov, who is based in New York City.

The concerts were underwritten by donations from supportive Sea Ranchers. Seating is limited, and advance registration is required. The concerts will be held at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. May 23 and at 4 p.m. May 24. To register or for more information, go to tsra.org.

The Sea Ranch Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Weekend Barbecue will be held at noon May 24 at One-Eyed-Jacks, a playground at The Sea Ranch. The barbecue is open to the public.
