Russian-born pianist Jura Margulis will return to Petaluma for his sixth concert next week, performing at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum.

Praised by the Washington Post for his “sheer power” and “effortless spontaneity,” Margulis, 46, will play compositions by Franz Schubert, Franz Liszt, Dmitri Shostakovich and Alexander Scriabin.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in June 1968, Margulis studied music in Germany and Italy before migrating to the United States to work with American pianist and conductor Leon Fleischer at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.

In addition to performing in concert, Margulis teaches piano and transcribes orchestral music for solo piano.

General admission to the Petaluma concert costs $25 in advance or $30 at the door, and includes wine, cheese and cookies. Balcony seating with beverage service is available for $40. The concert is presented by Sky Hill Cultural Alliance and the Petaluma Museum Association.
