The annual salute to the late singer runs June 25-28 in Laytonville with stars Smokey Robinson, Angelique Kidjo, Steve Earle and more.|

Even though it’s named for a beloved Northern California folk singer and songwriter, the annual Kate Wolf Music Festival doesn’t limit itself to just one kind of music.

The festival began in 1996 to celebrate the memory, music and life of Kate Wolf, who died in 1986 at age 44 of leukemia, and the celebration has grown into a large-scale event covering a wide range of music.

This year, headliners include Motown and soul star Smokey Robinson, singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo, country-folk-rock band Steve Earle and the Dukes, folk music and show tune legend Judy Collins, and Iron for Wine (alias singer-songwriter Sam Beam.

The festival will present more than 30 acts on four stages June 25-28 at the 150-acre Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, the Mendocino County home to the Hog Farm collective and Camp Winnarainbow circus camp for kids.

Tickets and passes range in price from $45 to $300, and are available at katewolfmusicfestival.com.
