One of Sonoma County theater’s most dynamic leaders is back in the game.

Argo Thompson, founding director of the 6th Street Playhouse and former director of one its precursors, Actors Theatre, is at the head of a new company.

Left Edge Theatre, devoted exclusively to recent plays, will open its first season in September at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts.

“We’re doing plays that have been written in the past five years, and have never produced been in Santa Rosa or Sonoma County before,” Thompson said.

Thompson, who left Sonoma County at one point for a stint as executive director of the Marin Arts Council, is glad to be back on his home ground.

He never truly left, teaming up with actor David Yen for several productions of the one-man show “Santaland Diaries,” written by David Sedaris, at various venues around Sonoma County.

For the Left Edge company, Thompson has secured the Carston Cabaret at Wells Fargo Center, which seats up to 200, and he has partnered with the H-Town Youth Theater of Healdsburg for support services.

“We’ll have cabaret table seating, and concessions during the shows,” Thompson said.

The debut 2015-2016 season for Left Edge features:

“Good People,” a comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire, Sept. 4-19.

“Seminar,” a comedy by Theresa Rebeck, Nov. 13-28.

“A Steady Rain,” a drama Keith Huff, Jan. 22-Feb. 6.

“God of Carnage,” a comedy by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, March 18-April 2.
