Top photographers’ work goes on display at Sonoma State University

Works by Robert Mapplethorpe, Annie Leibovitz and more will be featured at the campus art gallery.|

Nearly 60 pictures by top photographers, including Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz, Imogen Cunningham, Robert Mapplethorpe and others will go on display early next month at the University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University.

The exhibit. titled 'Focus on Photography: Selections from the Gallus Sweet Collection,' opens with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in the gallery on the Rohnert Park campus.

The photographs are from the collection of Sonoma County residents Fay Gallus and Dr. Richard Sweet.

In connection with the show, Sweet will appear at a special event, 'The Collector and the Gallerist: A Conversation with Richard Sweet and Martin Weinstein,' from 7 tp 9 p.m. Oct. 22.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends.
