The Santa Rosa Junior College art department and 3-D animation program will host three Cuban animators in September.

Mario Rivas, his son Daniel Rivas and Manuel Guerra will lecture at noon Monday, Sept. 14, in Newman Auditorium on the Santa Rosa campus, sharing their experiences at the Insituto Cubano de Arte e Industrias Cinematograficos.

Their talk will cover the evolution of Cuban animation from hand drawing and painting to computer-generated work. The Rivas are known in Cuba for their computer-generated series about genius girl detective Fernanda Larga.

The lecture also will be video-conferenced to room 602 of the Call Building on the college’s Petaluma campus.

Following the lecture, the art and applied techology departments will host a reception for the three animators at 1:30 p.m. in the Agrella Gallery on the first floor of the Doyle Library on the Santa Rosa Campus.

The Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, one of the co-sponsors of the visit, will present a free animation workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12., with a presentation by the Cuban animators at 3 p.m. Reservations required: 707-284-1272, schulzmuseum.org.
