English guitarist turned Nashville master plays Sebastopol

Richard Smith and his wife, cellist Julie Smith, are coming to Sebastopol for a performance on Oct. 9.|

Richard Smith, the English guitarist who has spent his career mastering the Nashville-based finger-picking style of Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed, will perform Friday, Oct. 9, in Sebastopol.

The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center, 390 Morris St., and also features Smith’s wife, cellist Julie Smith.

With 10 CDs and a DVD to his credit, Smith now covers wide range of techniques and styles, ranging from Bach to Sousa marches, and including jazz, blues and even ragtime.
