Bodacious beards, marvelous mustaches and other forms of facial hair were feted Saturday at the 57th annual Bill Soberanes Memorial Petaluma Whiskerino contest.

Aarne Bielefeldt of Willits was declared the grand champion in the event held at the Phoenix Theater, with Adam Aimes of Los Angeles winning the mustache competition. About 70 people competed at the event, named for Petaluma’s beloved newspaper columnist who died in 2003.

Women were able to vie - using homemade creations - for the title of best Whiskerina. Other categories included best sideburns and best peach fuzz.
